5/5 One sees clearly only with the heart stars
This book put a smile on my face. It’s like a much better version of the old movie, The Boy in the Plastic Bubble.
Madeline is the first female protagonist I’ve read this year that didn’t annoy me. Was she perfect? No. But I understood the reasons behind what she did. Olly too. He’s a great book boyfriend. They made a great couple I could enthusiastically cheer for.
It’s also refreshing that the characters I’m supposed to cheer for, I did. The characters I’m supposed to dislike, I did. And the characters I’m supposed to pity, I did. The writing is perfect for this type of story, with the diagrams, text and email messaging, and short chapters. It really propelled the story forward.
And a big bonus for me, the plot reminded me of one of my favorite eighties movies.
